Thank you Senator Christopher Dodd. Tonight Majority Leader Reid took the FISA bill off the floor until 2008. Thank you also Senators Boxer, Kennedy, Wyden, Brown, Feingold and Bill Nelson for standing with Senator Dodd.
The need to stand against retroactive immunity for telecommunications companies working with the Bush administration’s illegal snooping continues. 2008 is around the corner. Both New York’s Senators need to hear about this. Senator Clinton said the right things but was busy campaigning today. Hrumph.
Meanwhile the quote of the day came from Senator Kennedy:
The President has said that American lives will be sacrificed if Congress does not change FISA. But he has also said that he will veto any FISA bill that does not grant retro-active immunity. No immunity, no FISA bill. So if we take the President at his word, he’s willing to let Americans die to protect the phone companies.
